Peter van Koppen (1953) studied law at Groningen and Amsterdam. In 1984 he got his doctorate in Law at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. Van 1978 to 1992, he worked at the Legal Faculty in Rotterdam. From 1986 – 1987 and 1990 -1991, he stayed at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study at Wassenaar. From 1992 till the end of 2008, he worked for Nederlands Studiecentrum Criminaliteit en Rechtshandhaving (Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement). Van Koppen was an expert witness in many cases and a scientific advisor for the police.
